Download the latest Microsoft Product Support Reporting tools

Microsoft has released a new set of tools that facilitates gathering the necessary information for providing technical support. Although these tools are designed to generate reports that are used by Microsoft Product Support, you'll find the information just as handy when troubleshooting your computers.

To download these tools, go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=CEBF3C7C-7CA5-408F-88B7-F9C79B7306C0&displaylang=en . (You'll find that there are tools for gathering information about clustered servers, Active Directory, and the network, among others.)

After downloading a tool, run it simply by double-clicking on its executable file. When the tool completes its analysis of your computer, it stores the reports it generates in the \Winnt\MPSReports. Reviewing these reports will help you gain a better understanding of the computer you're attempting to troubleshoot. And, if you end up contacting Microsoft Product Support, they'll be able to use these reports as well.
