While installing a 4.1.x BlackBerry Enterprise Server for either Lotus Domino or Microsoft Exchange, utilising a remotely installed BlackBerry Router service, the following error may appear upon clicking the "Test Connectivity" button in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installer:
Attempting to connect to <routerhostname> (<routerIPaddress>), port 3101 Sending test packet Waiting for response Receiving response recv(): connection lost
This error also appears if BBSPRTest.exe is run from a command prompt on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server being installed.
If the installation is completed, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will function properly. Clients can test connectivity to the BlackBerry Router through port 3101 by using the Telnet utility from a command prompt as follows:
Telnet <routerIPAddress> 3101 <enter> A successful connection will result in an empty command prompt window with the cursor blinking in the upper left corner (the screen may then be closed).
If the connection is not successful, Telnet will response with Connecting to <RouterIPAddress>...Could not open connection to the host, on port 3101: Connect failed.
This indicates that there are real connectivity issues between the BlackBerry Enterprise Server which will require further troubleshooting. Possible causes include port 3101 being blocked by a firewall, and the BlackBerry Router not functioning properly on the remote host.
