Bang on schedule, Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron is released.

This is a significant release of Ubuntu. Not only is this release an LTS or Long term Support version (which means that support for the desktop version will be available for 3 years, while server versions will enjoy 5 years of support), but this version also includes several enhancements to make it easier for Windows users to try out Ubuntu without affecting their current OS.

Canonical, the company behind the distro, recognizes the significance of this release:
